The High Country offers challenging mountain biking, leisurely scenic road biking, and greenways to appeal to any type of cyclist. Easy bike rides include the Greenway Trail in Boone (6 miles), the Watauga River Road in Valle Crucis (8 miles) and Railroad Grade Road in Todd (10 miles), while moderate bike rides include the Junuluska Road Ride (14 miles) and Eighteen Mile Road in the Wilson Creek recreation area. For more strenuous mountain biking adventures, you can explore the Wilsons Creek recreation area and Linville Gorge area.

Town of Boone-Lee and Vivan Reynolds Greenway

Looping 6 miles around town, the Boone, the Lee and Vivian Reynolds Greenway Trail is an easy, accessible, paved and gravel trail for walkers and cyclists. With benches and picnic tables, it follows and crosses the South Fork of the New River through open meadows and forests. Trailheads for the main greenway are the Watauga County Recreation Complex or the adjacent Clawson Burnley Park.
